ABOUT US
MCDE is a department under the Directorate of Open Distance and e-learning (DODeL) in the Ministry of Education with its headquarters in Blantyre, Malawi. It has three regional offices in Mzuzu, Lilongwe and Blantyre.
MCDE was first set up as Malawi Correspondence College (MCC) in 1965. In 1987, the College changed its name to the Malawi College of Distance Education (MCDE).
The College’s mandate is to provide education and training through open and distance learning methods.
The mission of the College is to provide quality, relevant, accessible and equitable education and training at all levels through open and distance learning for socio-economic development.
SERVICES OFFERED
- Development and production of instruction materials (print and digital)
- Development and production of Interactive Radio Instructions
- Registration of Open Secondary Schools and Open Secondary School learners
- Monitoring and supervising operation and management of OSSs
- Orient professional staff in ODL approaches
- Distribution of instructional materials using a variety of medium ( print, online and offline, radio)
